March Newsletter

It’s March!    March may be a cold month in some parts of the United states, however this month’s newsletter has some wonderful news to warm you up.  Praise Jesus!!

Below are some very interesting stories that I think show the love of Jesus and to those like me who sometimes wonder am I making a difference in this world, Jesus may be saying, “YES, you are.”  So to all of you please keep listening to Jesus and pray for me.

Last month I had purchased twenty bibles with some money that was donated to me by the ladies church group, that my mother belongs too.  They said that they wanted to help and to give the bibles to those who really needed them, so I did.

I was praying about it and no answer came to me so, the bibles sat on the floor in my house for a week or so and then one day it was as if the Lord spoke to me and said, “Give them to the church that Antonio teaches at.”  Antonio is a man that in the past, worked for me for many years.  He is part-time pastor and the youth pastor in a very poor part of town, where lives also.  Below you can see a picture of some of the people who received the bibles and the church, or part of it.

The roof is held up by posts which really are tree limbs and the roof it self, is old tile from a house that was no longer wanted by the owner (because it leaks when it rains), there are no walls, just more limbs to hold the other posts together so they will not fall.

When I called Antonio to come over and pick up the bibles, he told me (after he arrived) that he had been praying about some bibles, because they have had some new members and were to poor to purchase them.  However, God knew all about it and so it worked out just as the Lord had planned it.  He told me that they were still short a few so I took some of the money that I had received for food and went and purchased fifteen more.  Thank you Lord Jesus for allowing me to helping others and be involved in their knowing more about YOU.  I pray that somehow I will be able to assist them in getting a new roof, one that does not leak, and maybe even some wood or blocks to build walls for the church.

Sorry the pictures are dark, the flash on my camera broke and they have church an night.

The next story is the school(s) that I have been assisting David with.  A missionary who lives and is building some school buildings about an hour from La Ceiba where I live.

He has completed the kindergarten, first, second and third grades so far and they just opened for the new school year (the Honduran school year which is Feb. to Nov.)

Below are two pictures, one of the man who makes the bricks for the schools and some of the bricks that we hope to use to put up a wall if the funds hold out.  The second picture is of the kindergarten – you can see on the painting, Jesus walking down the path to meet the child.  All of the buildings and the land have been dedicated to the Lord!

Some of the moms are waiting for their children to be released from kindergarten for the day and the man in the blue shirt who is mixing cement for the septic tank which is on the other side of the building is someone that I would like to comment on right now.

This young man grew up in the life of gangs, drugs, and lawlessness.  He has tattoos on his body from the days of being in the gang, he has spent months, many months in jail for illegal activities one of which was drug related and …….. and now he is serving Jesus.

Praise the Lord!!  It makes me shiver while I am writing this newsletter, to know that he is now a Christian and has been for about a year.  He has also been of off the drugs for a little over a year.  He is working for David, the missionary and is praising Jesus his Lord and Savior.  Blessed Jesus, I cannot thank you enough for allowing things like this to happen in my life.  As you know Lord, I sometimes wonder am I doing anything worthwhile here, and then you remind me with these stories that I am telling the people about in this newsletter.  Telling people about the Love of precious Jesus, Praise You!

Below is a picture of some of the telephone wires in La Ceiba, it looks like this all over town.  To me it is nothing short of confusion.  It is a mess!  There are a couple of places in town where there are so many wires that you cannot even see the signal lights, you don’t know if it is red or green.

The bible says >

For God is not the author of confusion, but of peace, as in all churches of the saints.

                                                                                                                    1 Cor 14:33

For where envying and strife is, there is confusion and every evil work.

But the wisdom that is from above is first pure, then peaceable, gentle, and easy to be entreated, full of mercy and good fruits, without partiality, and without hypocrisy.

                                                                                                                 James 3:16, 17

The reason that I writing this part is that all of those wires and not being able to see the signal lights reminds me of how the world acts.  Jesus said in John 8:12,

I am the light of the world: he that followeth me shall not walk in darkness, but shall have the light of life.

Yet, the world does not listen!  They do not adhere to the words of God, they do not see the light.  They live in confusion and we need to show them the Light, the Light that will lead them out of the darkness – the Light of Life!

The Light (JESUS) that they are learning about in the church above, the Light that they are learning about in the schools above and the light that the young man has learnt about.

Next story >

This year Nahum is going to graduate from high school, something that only a small percentage of Hondurans do.  Something that ever a smaller percentage of the poor do.

The picture above was taken about three years ago.

He was a bit of a wild boy when I first met him about five years ago.  At that time, Jesse a missionary and good friend of mine was helping him and his family.  Jesse was trying to help the children go to school and better their lives.  At that time, they did not want to learn, they had no dad (in the home) and as many destitute people here, they just moved to wherever they could find a place to live.  As time went on, Jesse got stomach cancer, he went to the U. S. to have it taken care of, well the short version of the story is, he died.

NOT of the cancer, but from the radiation and chemotherapy!

I won’t go into that anymore, it is to upsetting, Jesse was a good friend of mine.

I miss him a lot.  Four missionary friends of mine have died since I have been here, two in airplane crashes, and two from cancer.  There is death and murder here daily and I have seen more than my share of it.  Oh, how I HATE sin!!!

Back to Nahum, after Jesse died I decided to help him go to school and finish if he would study.  We had a discussion and he agreed, I would put him in a Christian bilingual school if he would get good grades and study.  He also is the sole provider for the family, he works all day (about ten hours) and then goes to school in the evenings.

As time pasted and as we talked Nahum accepted Jesus as his Lord and Savior.  Praise the Lord!  He has struggled with school having to work all day and be the caretaker of his mother, sister and her baby, however he has persevered and thanks to Jesus this year he will graduate from high school.  This is a monumental accomplishment in my opinion.  Nahum is now the music and worship leader at the church that he attends – he loves Jesus

Praise Jesus!!     Praise Jesus!!      Praise Jesus!!

Prayer request >

Need prayer for my wife’s mother, she was riding the bus the other day and when it stopped for her to get off, the driver did not wait until she was completely off before he decided to leave.  She fell to the ground and hit her head on a rock, she received a concussion to her head, some other cuts and bruises on her body.  She had to stagger home with the blood running down the back of her head.  She has been having headaches and dizziness lately.  She needs to go to the doctor again, she told Dori (my wife).

Did the bus driver stop to check on her – NO!!

Dori told me that it happened to her once also and has happened to others.  They have no concern for their passengers (you can see that in the way that they drive).

My wife’s mother is VERY poor, she has to live in houses that someone will allow her to stay in or to watch the house because the owner is away.  She has nothing!  I help her when I can.  I usually give her some money when we visit, so she can buy some food.

I pray that God will heal her, so that she may be able to go back to work as a maid where she works making about $32 per month (ten-hour days).  This is used for food.

Please pray for her healing!                          Please pray for her!
